INTENSE PULSED LIGHT SKIN CORRECTION

Erase the spots. Reveal the glow.

Brown spots, sun damage, redness, and acne scars sit in the upper layers of your skin. IPL reaches them with targeted pulses of light, breaking up the pigment so your body clears it naturally. What is left behind is smoother, more even skin tone.

I use the CUTERA Limelight IPL system. One treatment takes 30-45 minutes. There is no downtime. You walk out and get on with your day.

How an IPL Photofacial Works

The CUTERA Limelight IPL uses Intense Pulsed Light technology with three specific wavelengths that I adjust to match your skin and the condition I am treating. The light energy passes through the surface of your skin and is absorbed by the pigment underneath, whether that pigment is melanin (brown spots) or hemoglobin (redness and broken capillaries).

The targeted pigment absorbs the light, heats up, and breaks apart. Your body then clears the fragments over the following days and weeks. Dark spots rise to the surface, darken briefly, then flake away. Redness fades as damaged capillaries are reabsorbed.

Because the wavelengths are adjustable, I can treat multiple concerns in a single session: brown spots, rosacea, sun damage, acne scars, and enlarged pores all respond to IPL.

Conditions This Light-Based Skin Treatment Addresses

Limelight IPL is effective across a range of skin concerns. I use it to treat:

  • Brown spots and age spots from sun exposure
  • Sun damage and uneven pigmentation
  • Rosacea and persistent facial redness
  • Acne scars and post-inflammatory discoloration
  • Enlarged pores and rough skin texture
  • Broken capillaries and spider veins on the face

The treatment works on the face, neck, chest, hands, and arms. Anywhere sun damage or pigment irregularity shows up, IPL can address it.

Ready to clear the spots and redness?

I will evaluate your skin and tell you exactly what IPL can do for your specific concerns.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

You will wear protective eyewear throughout the treatment to shield your eyes from the bright light pulses. I apply the Limelight handpiece gently across the treatment area, delivering pulses of light at each point.

Most patients describe the sensation as a warm snap, similar to a rubber band lightly flicking the skin. The warmth fades within seconds. No anesthesia or numbing is needed.

The entire treatment takes 30-45 minutes depending on the size of the area. You leave my office and return to your normal routine immediately. There is no downtime.

Results and What to Expect Afterward

You will see visible improvement after just one treatment. Dark spots may darken slightly in the first few days as the pigment rises to the surface, then flake or fade away over the following 1-2 weeks. Redness diminishes gradually as treated blood vessels are reabsorbed.

Skin tone continues to improve over several weeks as your body completes the clearing process. Many patients see their best results 3-4 weeks after treatment.

For deeper pigmentation or stubborn sun damage, a series of 2-3 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart delivers the strongest results. With regular maintenance treatments, you can keep a clear, even complexion for years.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is IPL the same as laser treatment?
Not exactly. Lasers use a single wavelength of light. IPL uses multiple wavelengths, which allows me to target different pigments and conditions in a single session. The CUTERA Limelight system uses three adjustable wavelengths for precise treatment.

Does IPL hurt?
Most patients describe a warm snapping sensation during the pulses. It is brief and well-tolerated. No numbing or anesthesia is needed.

How many treatments will I need?
Many patients see visible results after one session. For deeper pigmentation or widespread sun damage, I typically recommend 2-3 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

Is there any downtime?
None. You can return to your normal activities immediately. Treated spots may darken temporarily before they flake away, but that is the clearing process working.

Can I combine IPL with other treatments?
Yes. Many patients pair IPL with chemical peels, microneedling, or Laser Genesis for more comprehensive skin rejuvenation. I can build a treatment plan that addresses multiple concerns over time.

Clear skin starts with one treatment.
